Hemphill wins silver medals in racquetball championships

TUSCALOOSA | Robert Hemphill won two silver medals recently at the 35th USAR Junior Olympic Championships racquetball competition on Concord, Calif.

Hemphill made it to the championship game in the consolation draw after losing to third-seeded Bobby Sehrgosha of Pleasanton, Calif., in a second-round match in the 12-and-under Gold bracket. Hemphill won two more matches before falling to Berry Conlon of Columbus, Ohio, in the Blue bracket final. Hemphill placed 10th overall in his age group.

Hemphill also teamed with Cody McVay of Wesley Chapel, Fla., to earn a silver medal in the consolation division in doubles play. Hemphill and McVay placed sixth overall.

Hemphill is sponsored by Team Ektelon and plays locally at Fitness One in Northport. He won the state championship in the men’s C Divsion this spring.
