Hemphill Earns Medal In Racquetball Tournament

Robert Hemphill, 6, of Fosters placed fourth in the U.S. Junior Olympic Racquetball Championships in Chicago.

The tournament was held June 26-30 at the Athletic Club of Bloomingdale. The field included more than 270 players ranging in age from 6 to 18.

Hemphill, who played in four matches, earned a pewter medal. He competed in the 6-and-under age group in the multi-bounce division. In the match to decide third place, Hemphill lost to Logan Nance from Stockton, Calif., by scores of 11-10, 1-11, 11-7.

Hemphill was the youngest of four players from Alabama who participated in the tournament. The other three are from Birmingham.
